Adobe Acrobat/Reader Error
I have another error that has come from real world experience. I had a customer that was running Vista with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1 (fully updated) and Acrobat Reader 9.1 (fully updated) that was unable to open PDF’s from either email or a web page. Every time it was tried, the following error was generated:
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again
Even the system log gave such a cryptic error referencing an unknown faulting module.
I tried everything including: unchecking the open PDF in browser option in both Adobe programs, restoring Internet Explorer settings to default. I was going crazy.
On the verge of uninstalling and reinstalling both applications, which is never my favorite option, I opened the Reader and went to Help on the main toolbar and selected the “Repair Adobe Reader Installation”.
After that was completed no more error. I even tested by switching the default pdf application between Reader and Pro. No further issues.
By looking around I see this is a very common error with Reader 9. I hope this helps.

Thanks for that information. At home I’m not using Adobes Readers because of security issues (I just heared a few days ago on a endpoint security workshop that Adobe has more security holes than M$!). But at work we are using AAR, so this could be an important information for me.
